Project: Three Tiered Architecture

Description:
This example is meant to accompany the article I wrote on the same topic, which can be found here. The project is written in Visual Studio 2005 (unlike this project, which is 2010) so should be runnable for most users.

Project: Excel Parser

Description:
This is a windows application used to parse date from a *.CSV file and insert the data into a database. This project was created to demonstrate three basic application processes. First, the IO process, to read data from a CSV file into a dataset. Second, to make a connection to a database and insert the parsed data into a table. Finally, this project implements the use of multi threading and the use of delegates.

Project Details: This is a windows application written in C# and connects to a Microsoft Access Database.

Project: HOME Youth Tracker (CMS)

Description:
HOME Youth and Resource Center is a non-profit organization that works with the homeless youth in the Marion County area. HOME is dedicated to serving this population to provide a safe and supportive environment where at youth risk and homeless youth can have their immediate needs met as well as have positive opportunities to reconnect with their communities. HOME was in desperate need to manage the large amounts of data on their clients and the services they provide to them. This data is needed to measure the impact of their services for improvements as well as for funding sources. To meet these needs I created a software and database application that would manage all their data and create the necessary reports.

Project Details: This is a small scale content managment system, with database, that implements several database and software design principles. The project is a windows application written in VB.net and uses a fully normalized Microsoft Access database.

Project: Data Collection Tool

Description:
While serving in the Peace Corps, I was fortunate to make several lasting friendships. A few years back I had a friend who worked in South Africa doing research on HIV treatments and their side effect. Durring my last semester I wanted to work on a new database project and thought that helping my friend would be an ideal choice. I was graduate assistant for an undergrad professor, who taught a database course. She had expressed to me in the past that her students were becoming bored with the typical database projects that they find in their text books and wanted some real life examples. I suggested that we might collaborate to have the students assist in designing the database for this project. I felt that by doing this, we could provide a great real life learning experience as well as give the students an opportunity to see what it is life to volunteer their services. The student not only appreciated the work experience, which they can add to their resume, but they have expressed their awe at being able to assist this research which has the potential to save hundreds of thousand lives.
